And Starbucks does it yet again! Limited-time only drinks forever.
The Caramel Waffle Cone Frappuccino joins the S’mores Frappuccino in the ranks of America’s summer “coffee” drinks. It is supposedly representative of the classic summertime treat of ice cream cones and carnival flavors.
Caramel Waffle Cone Frappuccino Review
According to Starbucks’ website, the Caramel Waffle Cone Frappuccino is a “waffle cone-flavored syrup [base] and dark caramel sauce with coffee, milk and ice. Then top it with whipped cream, real pieces of waffle cone and more dark caramel sauce.”
Sounds delicious – especially the dark caramel sauce part. The waffle cone part, I was definitely skeptical about. Color-wise and design-wise, the drink is pretty much average. A light, caramel color throughout – the only difference being the pieces of waffle cone on top (which, by the way, are SUPER hard to get through the straw! I was eating them like a maniac scooping them out with my straw at the end)
The taste was much like all the other caramel-based drinks Starbucks has been churning out as of late. However, they held back this time! Which, of course, was super welcome. Because of the restraint in the caramel, the waffle cone syrup shined through – it seriously tasted like a waffle cone! It had a eggy batter taste, as a waffle cone should, but I say this in the best way – because my descriptive skills are obviously terrible. (Actually, while drinking it, I wondered if it was just the placebo effect of seeing the waffle cone pieces…)
It wasn’t bitter, but it wasn’t overly sweet. It was just right. I wish I had a spoon to scoop it all into my mouth – but Starbucks has no spoons for me (or rather, I was too embarrassed to ask for one, when I didn’t order any food).
I just wish the waffle cone pieces would come through the straw, because it would’ve added so much to the drink…
Anyways, absolute welcome addition to the Frappuccino line-up and would definitely go for this drink again!
